Today on the podcast, President and Artistic Director, Sarah Stolfa talks about the origins of the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, celebrating Ten Years with several events, looking back on the early days and programs that helped to shape the value of PPAC since 2009. Here’s my interview with Sarah Stolfa.

ABOUT TEN YEARS: TEEN PHOTO ALUMNI EXHIBITION
Philadelphia Photo Arts Center celebrates its 10-year anniversary by featuring creative works by students who participated in the Teen Photo program over the last decade. Alumni were invited to submit their work for the Ten Years: Teen Photo Alumni Exhibition and share how creativity has manifested in their lives and through their photography.
Teen Photo is a free afterschool program for Philadelphia public high school students. From September to May, students are provided with full access to PPAC’s equipment, materials, and teaching staff, as well as a DSLR camera to take home for the duration of the program. Students are divided into four sections and meet weekly with dedicated mentors to share photos, learn technical skills, and go on art museum visits and photo walks. As the teens expand their thinking, both critically and creatively, they build confidence and develop a love of learning that helps them grow in every aspect of their lives. The program has grown from eight students in 2010 to 69 students in 2019. In total, the Teen Photo program has served 260 Philadelphia high school students since its inception.
Ten Years: Teen Photo Alumni Exhibition will feature the work of 27 local artists. The photographs from the exhibition will be printed, mounted and framed by Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. The exhibition will be on display from March 12 – May 2. Proceeds from the sale of the works will be split between the artist and Philadelphia Photo Arts Center.
